If you do and if you are using JAWS with the default settings, you are hearing extra verbosity that clutters the speech output and missing important information for web verbosity. JAWS has some reading verbosity that you can eliminate, such as Tutor Messages and List Box Announce Position and Count. On the other hand, the default “Web” verbosity level for JAWS is set to medium, with many items not spoken, to create a more “optimal user experience for most web sites and documents.” That makes perfect sense for the average user, but as a tester you may want more information.
In this instructional demonstration you learn about the settings Dan Clark of dSurf uses for web page and PDF testing and reading with JAWS including:
- Web verbosity settings changes
- Reading behavior (such as stopping pages from automatically reading on page load)
- Images and links (By default, JAWS only reads “labeled” graphic images. You want to test for unlabeled images.)
- Visual Tracking
- And more
